Broadcasting the World: "Global Groove" and Global Communication Networks

This colloquium will showcase new research from the first chapter of my dissertation, centered on Nam June Paik's Global Groove, his pioneering video work exploring themes of global communication. By tracing the origins of Paik's experimentation with electronic media—particularly television and video—I will present archival findings that expand on his concept of the "electronic superhighway." This research reframes Paik not only as the "father of video art" but as a multifaceted artist whose engagement with a broad spectrum of electronic media allowed him to create cross-cultural and globally resonant works.
