Colloquium
Carnegie Museum of Natural History

In recognition of Indigenous Peoples' Day (October 14) and the debut of a new series of exhibits on repatriation stories at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History (CMNH), Amy Covell-Murthy will give a gallery talk to the Department at the Carnegie. Amy is the Head of the Section of Anthropology, Collection Manager of Archaeology, and the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) liaison for the museum. This exhibition, Keeping Traditions Alive, centers the Quapaw Nation of Oklahoma, on the impetus of a repatriation to the Quapaw that Amy helped to facilitate in 2022 with Carrie Wilson, Quapaw NAGPRA Director. The exhibition also features work by Betty Gaedtke, a contemporary practitioner of Quapaw and Mississippian Pottery.
Those wishing to attend: Please gather by the Tlingit totem pole on the third floor of the museum, off the Grand Staircase by 12:00 and Deirdre Smith will walk the group through the cultural halls to meet Amy.
