Dr. Tanja Schult, art historian at Stockholm University, is a prolific scholar of Holocaust memorials and politically engaged public monuments. She is currently engaged in a collaborative project with geographer and social historian Tim Cole (University of Bristol) on the democratic potential of public monuments in the 21st century. Her colloquium, based on extensive field work in Europe and the U.S., addresses the question, “What are monuments in democracy for and how can we research their efficacy?”
