Stonewall Jackson in Pittsburgh: should he stay, or should he go? - Colloquium

Wednesday, March 3, 2021 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

Speaker: Thomas J. Morton, Senior Lecturer in the Department of History of Art & Architecture

In the east transept of East Liberty Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh one finds a large stained-glass window depicting the History of Presbyterianism in North America; the Confederate general, Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, is one of twelve figures prominently displayed and named in this window. In this colloquium presentation, Thomas Morton will examine how Jackson came to be included in this window – and whether the church will remove him from this window or not.
