We are deeply saddened to mark the passing of Alexandra Oliver on May 22, 2017. Alex was a leading light in our department, widely respected for her critical intellect and probing research and writing on the history of photography and contemporary art. She also enjoyed a strong and loyal following among our undergraduates for her passionate approach to teaching and commitment to making a real difference in their lives. Alex completed her PhD with us in 2014 and went on to become a tireless advocate for the arts and social justice in the Pittsburgh community.
A celebration of life for Alex will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 2 pm at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Wilkinsburg, PA.
Her family has created an online obituary and commentary in Alex’s memory.
