In March, Georgina Laube (HAA 2020) will present her paper titled “The Silent Narratives: Investigating the Impact of Absent Bodies in Memorial Photography” at the “Legal Bodies, Embodied Subjects: (Re)contextualizations of Physicality” conference hosted by the University of Szczecin in Poland. Drawing upon Ashley Gilbertson’s photo essay “Bedrooms of the Fallen,” which portrays the personal artifacts of possessions within the bedrooms of service members who died in Iraq and Afghanistan, her paper examines, whether representing the deceased through their intimate spaces carries comparable significance to traditional war photography that prominently features the physical presence of its subjects.
Georgina Laube is currently finishing her Master of Arts in Kunst- & Bildgeschichte (Art & Visual History) at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and is advised by Professor Charlotte Klonk.
