On Thursday, September 9, alum Maria Castro (BA 2013 and PhD 2020) will moderate an online conversation reflecting on Diego Rivera’s Pan American Unity mural and his vision of cooperation across borders in the Americas. Castro is Assistant Curator of Painting and Sculpture at SFMOMA; other participants will include artists Juana Alicia and Eamon Ore-Giron, and scholars Jonathan Cordero (Ramaytush Ohlone/Chumash) and Claire F. Fox. Their conversation will consider the history and iconography of Rivera's mural (currently on public view at SFMOMA), and offer contemporary perspectives on the idea of Pan Americanism and cross-cultural solidarity. Register at SFMOMA.
