Curator, University Art Gallery
The Department of History of Art and Architecture at the University of Pittsburgh seeks to hire a Curator for the University Art Gallery. The Curator works closely with the Director of the University Art Gallery, who is also the Chair of the Department of History of Art and Architecture. Curator responsibilities include: supporting the department’s innovative Constellations program http://www.haa.pitt.edu/research/constellations with the development and execution of Constellations-based exhibits mounted in the University Art Gallery; curating other exhibits to further the educational and public outreach missions of the History of Art and Architecture and Studio Arts Departments, and of other units inside and outside the university on request; assisting in the instructional and exhibition requirements of the Museum Studies minor; mentoring and overseeing graduate and undergraduate curatorial interns; maintaining and strengthening the conditions of the gallery space; managing the condition, care, and documentation of our permanent collection of over 3,000 objects; developing and maintaining collection management policies, grant writing, and handling loan agreements; chairing the University Art Gallery committee and serving as its liaison to the Department; and engaging in research related to the permanent collection and to the gallery’s exhibitions and programming.
The starting date is September 1, 2015. This is a full-time, non-tenure stream position. Eligible candidates must hold the MA degree or higher in curatorial studies or a related field; teaching and a minimum of three years full-time curatorial experience are also required.
