Prof. Emeritus David Wilkins is one of three invited speakers for the Donatello Conference that will be presented at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London on May 19-20, 2023. The conference is offered in conjunction with the Donatello exhibition being offered at the V&A this spring. His topic, "Patron/Collaborator/Audience: Changing the Narrative," will emphasize the importance of recognizing the many possible roles that Donatello's patrons may have played in the creative process. He will also discuss the possibility that some of Donatello's work may have been produced on speculation. Prof. Wilkins and Bonnie Apgar Bennett (Pitt Ph.D.) co-authored "Donatello" (Phaidon, 1984) and Prof. Wilkins has also published articles on Donatello's invention of rilievo schiacciato, on his lost statue of Dovizia, and on his patrons.
