Ann Sutherland Harris gave the opening speech at the CAA’s 50th Anniversary of Feminism + Art at Boston University on September 23, 2022. The event celebrated 50 years of feminism and art. Speakers included several of the feminist pioneers who created the WCA (Women’s Caucus for Art) that challenged sexism in the academic institutions of art history. To quote their announcement: "The CAA along with the WCA and The Feminist Art Project, the CAA is committed to ensuring that the crucial work at the intersection of art and feminism continues during this moment of precarity for women’s rights."
Professor Harris was invited to attend but decided to participate virtually. Her speech was recorded in her kitchen with a background featuring a large image of Artemisia Gentileschi by May Stevens with quotes from Artemisia’s life. Her talk and the rest of the program is available on YouTube.
