In his keynote titled ‘Renewing African Art Discourse within the Postcolonial Constellation’, Emeritus Professor Terry Smith reflects on his experience of editing a selection of the voluminous writings of the late curator, critic and art historian Okwui Enwezor. Smith discusses the reasoning behind the text selection, which was in line with the arc of Enwezor’s intellectual life and the evolution of his thinking. Combined in two volumes—Selected Writings of Okwui Enwezor: Toward a New African Art Discourse, vol. 1 and Selected Writings of Okwui Enwezor: Toward a New African Art Discourse, vol. 2. —the selected texts will be published by Duke University Press for The Africa Institute and Sharjah Art Foundation.
