During the Consuming Nature workshop organized by the Collecting Knowledge Pittsburgh initiative, PhD candidate in Theatre and Performance Studies Shelby Brewster, was struck by the archival collections of the Group Against Smog and Pollution (GASP) at the Archives Service Center, University Library System. Alongside her own research into the Center for Genomic Gastronomy, this collection has inspired a forthcoming performance that will take place at GASP’s Air Fair on August 10, an exhibit that will bring together community organizations working to improve the region’s air quality. As part of the event, Shelby will prepare meringues that contain polluted air from across Pittsburgh for visitors to the exhibit to taste!
