Graduate student Jake Eisensmith receives the James and Susanne Wilkinson Research Prize for Outstanding Scholarship on Topics in Premodern Art for his dissertation chapter focused on the artistic response in Puglia, Italy to the Ottoman invasion of 1480. The chapter, "Ottoman Otranto: Southern Italian Artistic Response to an Ottoman Invasion" looks to the multiple phases of artistic response in the wake of Ottoman aggression which correspond to the political shifts in the region. The prize will facilitate further research travel for his ongoing dissertation, "The Impact of Islam on Southern Italian Artistic Identity: Mediterranean Renaissance Spatiotemporal Networks,” in the coming academic year.
