Kale Doyen has published her essay “Visualizing Chicanx Presence in the Rural Midwest,” with New York University’s The Latinx Project. This essay includes original photographs exploring her family's diasporic history in the state, and examines how communities of color are made peripheral in Michigan. "Visualization is only half the battle, those we share space with must respect our role as members of the collective public sphere," Doyen writes. Founded in 2018, The Latinx Project at NYU promotes U.S. Latinx art, culture, and scholarship through creative and interdisciplinary programs. View the essay on the Latinx Project website.
