Graduate student Hossein Nakhaei presents his paper, "A Composite of Fragments: Removal, Displacement, and Illusion in Museum Displays of Persian Luster Tiles," at the 55th annual session of the Middle Atlantic Symposium, hosted by the National Gallery’s Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts (CASVA). Focusing on a panel assembled from fragments of Persian luster tiles in a local museum in Iran, he examines the layers of violence involved in the removal of these tiles during the 19th and 20th centuries and how this history is obscured in global museum displays of luster tiles.
