Cole Hannah (Hot Metal Bridge Fellow)

Biography

Cole Hannah is a Hot Metal Bridge Fellow who focuses on African American contemporary art, and on art depicting Blackness from an outsider's perspective. For his senior thesis at Haverford College, Cole examined Afrosurrealism as more than a genre or an artistic movement, but a visual framework that allows for the unearthing of questions concerning race, gender, and identity within artistic depictions of Black people and culture. As more depictions of Black existence begin to fill up art museums and galleries around the world, Cole believes it is crucial to acknowledge the benefits of using a Black-oriented framework to analyze Black artworks.
