Monica Daniels is a Pittsburgh native and third-year graduate student in the Department of History of Art and Architecture. Her research focuses on contemporary art, with particular attention to Black women’s-art making practices, cultural traditions, and intersections with steel, labor, and community histories.
She holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Chatham University and is a former K-12 art educator. Monica is a Hot Metal Bridge alumna and K. Leroy Irvis Fellow. She is actively engaged in graduate student leadership, having previously served as Vice President and currently serving as President of the Black Graduate Alliance.
Beyond her academic work, Monica has a passion for public art and community archives. Her lived experiences across art history, education, community arts engagement, and creative practices inform her interdisciplinary approach to producing academic scholarship.
